Polnaszek, Geraldine (24 AUG 1953)

St. Bernard’s Catholic Church at Thorp was the scene of a pretty wedding on Monday, Aug. 24th, 1953 at 9 a.m. when Geraldine Polnaszek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Polnaszek, became the bride of Edward Dobrzynski of Milwaukee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Dobrzynski of Thorp.

The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Arnold M. Muckerheide before an altar beautifully adorned with gladiolas of various shades.

As the choir sang "On This Day" the bride placed a bouquet of white gladiolas on the altar of the Blessed Virgin.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attired in a lovely gown with a lace fitted bodice, long sleeves and satin skirt with several tiers of nylon netting. Her nylon fingertip veil was fashioned to a coronation headpiece of lace. She carried a bouquet of white Alba lilies.

Frances Posdell of Stanley, as maid of honor, wore a hooped skirt gown of Coral satin with black velvet trim as did the bridesmaids, Leah Hartel and Ruth Bogumill, cousin of the bride, Elaine Cook, Cora Boardman and Jeanette Kozial, who were also bridesmaids, wore hooped skirt gowns of Alice Blue satin with black velvet trim. Their nosegay bouquets all were of blue and coral daisies. They were all wearing necklaces of pearls and rhinestones with earrings to match, which were gifts of the bride.

Kathleen Polnaszek of Green Bay, niece of the bride, as flower girl, wore a gown of white satin with black velvet trim and carried a basket full of white daisies. The cross and chain she was wearing was her gift of the bride.

The groom, his best man, Richard Polnaszek, brother of the bride, wore tuxedos, as did the other attendants, Richard Szymanski of Thorp; Leonhard Ebben, Milwaukee; Duane Jacque, Milwaukee; Ben Dobrzynski, Thorp, brother of the groom; and Louis Papierniak Jr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The bride’s mother was wearing a tomato red dress with black accessories and the groom’s mother a navy blue nylon dress. Their corsages were of yellow chrysanthemums.

Edward Polnaszek of Thorp and Georg Polnaszek of Green Bay were the ushers.

The singing and music were furnished by St. Bernard’s choir.

David Polnaszek, nephew of the bride, and Bobby Blazel, cousin of the of the bride, were chosen to be mass servers.

The wedding breakfast at 11:30 for 200 guests and the dinner for about 600 guests was prepared and served by St. Hedwig’s Sodality at St. Hedwig’s Parish Hall which was appropriately decorated for the occasion.

A dance was held in the evening at the hall with music by Jolly six Orchestra.

The young couple left on a wedding trip through parts of Wisconsin and Minnesota. They will be at home at 2829 N. 50th St., Milwaukee, after Labor Day.

The bride and groom were both graduates of the Thorp High School with the class of 1951. The bride has been employed as office clerk for the Thorp Finance Corp. for some time and the groom is employed as a salesman for the Gunderson Motor co. at Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

There were many out of town relatives in attendance at the wedding and all members of the immediate families, excepting Bill Polnaszek, a brother, who is stationed in Korea with the Marines.
