Moen, Anna (1 Aug 1864 - 8 Sep 1952)

Mrs. Anna (Peterson-Hagen) Moen passed away at 12:45 Monday morning at the Victory Memorial Hospital at Stanley at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 8 days.

She was taken to the hospital early Sunday morning, having suffered a heart condition.

She was born in Norway, Aug. 1st, 1864. She was married to Andrew Hagen in 1882. Shortly after their marriage her husband sailed to America to find a home for them. Later on she came to America with her parents and they settled on a farm in the town of Worden (Clark Co., Wis.).

Eight children were born to this union: Mrs. (Claude) Mabel B. Henderson of Bend, Oregon (20 Feb 1891, Worden twp., Clark Co., WI-1969 Hamilton Falls, Linn, Oregon), Mrs. Mercy Rossman of Chippewa Falls (29 Jul 1884-1957), Anton of Gilman and Elmer and Sam of Withee. Three children and her husband preceded her in death.

In 1897 she was married to Ole Moen, also in the town of Worden. To this marriage five children were born; Olaf Moen of Los Banos, Calif., Mrs. Hugo Wolters and Mrs. Arthur Smosal of Withee and Chester Moen of Greenwood. One child died in infancy. Also two stepchildren survive here, Otto Moen of Ely, Minn. And Mrs. Emma Larson of Stanley.

Anna Moen was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Wolters Corner and for several years a member of the Ladies Aid.

She had 40 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was a kind and loving mother and had the love and respect of everyone who knew her.

Funeral services were conducted from the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. W. Clayton Nielsen officiating.

Pallbearers were Guy Stewart, Chester Neff, Chris Backe, Fred Amacker, Leo Stewart and Walter Emmerson.

Those in charge of flowers were Janie and Shirley Moen, Violet Poppe, Valeria Van Wald, Beverly Sillampa, Irene Erickson, Ruth Parks and Ione Kainz.

Out of town persons who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Mabel Henderson of Bend, Oregon, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Moen, Alfred and Ione of Ely, Minn.; Louie Johnson of Superior, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson of Menomonie; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Rossman of Cornell; Mrs. Annie Rossman of Gilman; Mr. and Mrs. John Rossman and Mrs. Mercy Rossman of Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Lena Rossman of Gilman; Mr. and Mrs. Anton Hagen of Gilman; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hempleman, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Erickson, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Van Wald and daughter of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hempleman of thorp, Mr. and Mrs. Dever Green, Mrs. Emrol Green and Miss Darlene Green of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Moen and daughters of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stowe and children, and Mrs. Otis Stowe of Abbotsford, Mrs. Emma Larson, Leonard and Ruth of Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Gorsegner of Jump River, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nindorf and son Quentin of Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Meinholdt and Mrs. Pat Meinholdt of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Christensen of Stanley.
