Helen Isabelle McKenzie Imig, 94, a resident of The Dalles, OR, passed away at a local hospital Tuesday, March 17, 2009.

She was born Feb. 13, 1915, in Independence, IA, sixth of nine children to Everett Charles and Mary Isabelle (Phelps) McKenzie. He lived in central Wisconsin from her early years until graduating from high school. She attended La Salle Business College in La Salle, IL, following graduation from high school in Neillsville in 1933.

Helen married Harold William Imig in East Moline, IL, June 29, 1940. She was a homemaker, raising seven children, and worked for many years at The Dalles Cherry Growers. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, active in St. Rose’s Circle altar society until health prevented participation, and a member of Catholic Associates, Mill Creek Grange and Teamsters Union.

Gardening was the joy of Helen’s life. She loved flowers anywhere and every where! Her passion for gardening carried over to cultivating loving relationships with everyone she met. Discussing current events and politics was an avocation that kept her mind keen and active.
