Beilfuss, Carl H. #3 (28 MAR 1883 - 6 JAN 1951)

Carl H. Beilfuss passed away at his home in the village of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6th, 1951, after suffering for the past four years from a stroke and other complications. He was 67 years of age and had been a resident of the village of Withee for nearly 40 years.

Funeral services were conducted at two o’clock from St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church, Owen, with Dr. K. O. Crosby officiating. Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery where Masonic rites were held. Serving as pallbearers were Harry Thorson, S. M. Munson, James Boylan, Withee; R. G. Lawrence, Thorp, and Harvey Weddig and S. E. Grimes, Owen.

Carl H. Beilfuss, the son of the later Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Beilfuss, was born on March 28, 1883 at Abbotsford, Wis. As a young man he attended the Thorp Graded and High School. On Nov. 11, 1909 he and Louise Ellen Roth were united in marriage at Chippewa Falls, Wis. The couple then settled in the village of Withee where Mr. Beilfuss was first employed as station agent for the Soo Line Railway. In 1915 he became associated with the Withee State Bank, serving as its assistant cashier. However, shortly thereafter he was elevated to the position of cashier, a position he retained until the present day. Two years ago he was voted president of the bank.

Of al the men who have been active in civic affairs in Withee throughout the past many years, Carl H. Beilfuss will be one most frequently missed and least easily replaced. His interests were many and he directed enthusiasm to every undertaking. For many years he served the village in various offices and one time served as its president when appointed to fill an unexpired term. He was a member of the Withee School Board for 33 consecutive years and a member of the Riverside Cemetery association for the past 30 years. He also belonged to the Modern Woodmen of America, the Owen Masonic Lodge and the Masonic Consistory at Eau Claire, of which he was a 32nd Degree Mason.

His friendships were as numerous as his interests: his earnestness, sincerity and ready sense of humor made him a favorite in his community. His interests also expanded out and reached into the field of sports as he helped finance and direct the affairs of many of Withee’s better ball clubs of yesterday. Reflecting his judgment and will for civic improvement and pride are the present day Withee High School building and the beautiful Riverside Cemetery, in both of which he played a big part in their development.

Surviving him, in addition to his many friends, are one son, Bert, Withee; and a brother, Walter of Neillsville. His wife preceded him in death on May 24, 1950.
