Scherf, Fred (2 DEC 1892 - 22 NOV 1950)

Fred Scherf, 58, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 1950, where he had been admitted earlier in the day. The cause of his death being an acute heart attack.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church at Longwood, at two o’clock Saturday, Nov. 25th, where he had been an active member since 1939. Burial was made in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers at the service were: James Boylan, Ray Miller, Leonard Kivviko, Malcolm Capes, William Niemi and Richard Needham.

He was born at Wilmot, Wis., Dec. 2, 1892. When he was eight years of age the Scherf family moved to a farm in the Town of Hixon (Clark Co., Wis.) where he resided until his marriage to Mary Torgeson Heibel on June 1, 1925. Since their marriage they have made their home on a farm in the Town of Longwood.

In 1939 he was instructed in the Christian faith and joined Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Longwood. At the time of his death he was a member of the church council.

During the 25 years that he had made his home in the Town of Longwood he had been an active leader in the town’s affairs reflecting his leadership abilities by working toward the best objectives of the community. At the time of his sudden death he was serving the township as its treasurer.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mary, and daughter Charlotte, two brothers, Sabin and Floyd, and two sisters, Mrs. Oscar Parkinson (Emmaline) and Natalie Scherf, besides a host of friends.
