Krom, Saul (11 Sept. 1903 - 17 Aug. 1945)

Funeral services for Saul Krom, 41, who died Friday, Aug. 17, were held Tuesday morning at 10:00 o’clock at Piser’s Funeral Home, 3125 W. Chicago Road, Chicago. Internment was made in the family lot at Waldheim cemetery. His father and three brothers attended the funeral.

Saul Krom was born Sept. 11, 1903 at Withee and attended the Withee schools.

Prior to his induction in the army on Sept. 26, 1942, he was a cattle buyer for Harold Christensen, in Abbotsford, Wis.

He left the United States on June 19, 1943 and he served a year in the Hawaiian Islands and a year in New Guinea, having attained the rank of private first class. He was seriously wounded in July, 1944 in New Guinea. He was hospitalized there until October when he was brought to Fitzsimmons General Hospital, in Denver.

On Jan. 1, 1945 he was home on a six weeks’ furlough and then went to Hines General hospital, Chicago, where he remained until about three weeks ago when he came to Abbotsford to visit friends.

He was then admitted to St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, where he died at 11:30 a.m. Friday.

He is survived by his father, Ben Krom, Withee; and three brothers, George, Owen; Sgt. Milton, stationed in Chicago; and Harold, Withee.
