Reding, William Rev. Msgr. (19 Feb. 1865 - 23 June 1945)

Rt. Rev. Msgr. William Reding, 80, died Saturday at Wisconsin Rapids. A pontificial high mass was sung this morning at 10:30 with the Most Rev. Peter W. Bartholome, bishop of St. Cloud, officiating and internment followed in Calvary cemetery.

Msgr. Reding served as pastor of Abbotsford, a mission of Colby, at one time. Other parishes were at Eau Galle, Spring Valley, Colby and the missions of Farm Hill, Plum City and Ellsworth.

Born in Luxembourg, Germany, on Feb. 19, 1865, he was brought to America at the age of two months by his parents, who settled in Hastings, Minn. When he was 18 he entered St. John’s University, St. Cloud. Two years later he entered Campion College, Prairie du Chien, and later St. Francis Seminary at St. Cloud.

He was ordained priest on June 24, 1893, at St. Cloud, his death occurring one day before he would have completed 52 years of service in the ministry.

In 1932 Father Reding was invested as monsignor and domestic prelate to his Holiness, the late Pope Pius XI.

The only survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Alois Hofacker, Elmwood, and Mrs. Hubert Wollmering, Hastings, Minn.

The Rev. Francis Brockman, of St. Bernard’s parish, Abbotsford, left on Wednesday to attend the funeral of Msgr. Reding.
