Hessel, Paul Otto (20 Jan. 1864 - 11 Apr. 1945)

Funeral services for Paul Otto Hessel, 61 years old, who died April 11 about 11:30 a.m., after an abdominal operation at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, were held Sunday afternoon. The Rev. J. Brandt conducted a short service at Lulloff’s Funeral home at Colby, where the body had been lying in state, and at 2:00 o’clock at Christ Lutheran church at Abbotsford, of which church he had been a member since coming to this community. Internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery.

The pallbearers were H. J. Amacher, Walter Kunzi, Clarence Gosse, Martin Daencke, G. G. Kieser and Chet Knight.

The flowers were carried by the Misses Janet Uhlig, Elaine Daenecke, Darlene Grambort, Jean Laack, Rowene Schaefer and Doris Kieser.

Paul Otto Hessel was born Jan. 20, 1884, in Leibsig, Germany, and came to America at the age of 19. In 1915 he was married to Miss Bertha Worchel in the town of Warner, where the young couple lived for nine years, coming to Abbotsford in 1924. They lived on the edge of the village and Mr. Hessel practiced the trade of paper hanging and painting, at which he was active until the time he was admitted to the hospital for surgery.

Besides his wife, he leaves four children, Mrs. Paul (Evelyn) Trump, and Mrs. Bernard (Dorothy) Decker, Chicago; Lawrence, Milwaukee; and Howard, Beaver Dam. There is one grand child, Lu Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hessel.

His surviving brothers are all in Germany.
