Kauffman, Ethel (Marriage - 14 June 1944)

Miss Ethel Kauffman was given in marriage by her father, Loris Kauffman, to Arthur Van Slett, of Unity, Wednesday morning, June 14, in St. Mary’s Catholic church, Colby, Wis. The Rev. Leo Lang read the double ring service before the nuptial high mass at 9:00 o’clock.

The bride wore a gown of white with the lace bodice made with a sweetheart neck line and three-quarter length sleeves. The very full net skirt over crepe was joined to the long waist with a frill of net. A tiara of beads and rhinestones held the veil of net which had all over lace inserts in the train and was bordered with lace, as was the blusher veil which was worn over the bride’s face until after the ceremony. She wore a string of pearls, the gift of the groom, and carried a white prayer book and colonial bouquet of vivid red roses and orange blossoms.

Her sister, Mrs. Edwin Frome, Jr., was matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Miss Bernice Van Slett, sister of the groom, and Miss Betty Leichtnam.

The attendants were gowned alike in frocks of lace and net, made like the bridal gown. They all wore matching hats, pearl necklaces and wrist corsages. The colors of the frocks were pink, yellow and blue.

Miss Ruth Blanchard, Colby, niece of the groom, in an identical frock of blue with matching bonnet and carrying flowers was the flower girl.

Allen Kauffman, brother of the bride, in a navy blue suit, was ring bearer and carried the rings on a satin pillow.

Edwin Frome, Jr., was best man and the ushers were Joseph Van Slett, of Unity, and Sgt. T. Charles Van Slett, of Ft. Riley, Kansas.

The mother of the bride wore a summer dress of printed silk with Alice blue accessories. The groom’s mother also wore printed silk with tan accessories. Both wore shoulder corsages.

After the wedding mass a breakfast was served to the bridal parry at the home of the groom’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. George Blanchard, Colby, Wis. A dinner for about 40 of the immediate relatives was held at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Loris Kauffman, Abbotsford, Wis. The dining room was decorated with a canopy of white, pink, yellow and blue streamers, fastened at the center with a cluster of white bells. A large, decorated wedding cake and crystal candelabra formed the centerpiece of the table. Cut flowers were also used both at the church and the home decorations.

In the evening a wedding dance was held at Wiedenhoeft’s pavilion.

Mr. and Mrs. Van Slett left on a trip to northern Wisconsin. They will be at home near Unity after June 21. The groom helps his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Slett, on the farm.

The bride is a graduate of the Abbotsford high school with the class of 1939 and has been employed at Berger’s Northland Henneries.

Among the relatives from away who attended the wedding were the bride’s grand mother, Mrs. Bertha Fink of Eagle, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Frome, Jr., of Gardenia, Calif.; Mrs. Elmer Van Slett, Wausau; and Sgt. T. Charles Van Slett, Ft. Riley, Kansas, and Mrs. Ruth Meus, Marshfield.
