Helfert, Anton (19 Mar. 1917 - 14 Feb. 1944)

Funeral services for Anton Helfert, Jr., town of Holton, whose death occurred Monday, were held this morning. A brief service at the home was held at 9:00 o’clock, followed by a requiem mass at 9:30 at St. Louis’ Catholic church, Dorchester, Wis.

Mr. Helfert, who helped his mother, Mrs. Pauline Helfert, on the farm, went about his regular farm duties, Monday morning and was last seen by his mother about 10:00 o’clock, when she went to the barn. When another brother, Joe, who was working in the woods, returned at noon and Anton wasn’t with him, she went to the barn and found his body.

Dr. F. B. Foley was called when the body was discovered and the cause of death, which occurred about 11:00 o’clock, was given as strangulation.

Mr. Helfert had not been feeling well the past few weeks but gave no indication of dejection.

Anton Helfert, Jr., was born in the town of Holton March 19, 1917. He attended the Bruckerville school and had worked on the farm with his mother ever since.

Nicholas, Edmonton, Canada; and three sisters, Mrs. Frank (Agnes) Bartnik, Dorchester; Marie, Park Ridge, Ill.; and Mrs. Theodore (Cecelia) Schmidt, of Greensburg, Ind. Besides his brother, Carl, he was preceded in death by his father, Sept. 30, 1928.

A brother, Tech. Sgt. Carl Helfert, was killed in action in North Africa, July 20, 1943, and another brother, Cpl. Nicholas Helfter, has been confined to the Army Hospital at Edmonton, Canada, for the past six months due to a broken leg.
