Merwin Family Reunion

The Merwin reunion was held at Cherokee park, Sunday, Aug. 23. This was the fifth successive family reunion held in honor of Mrs. Emily Merwin, who celebrated her 81st birthday anniversary by cutting an attractive birthday cake in the presence of her four sons and three daughters.

After the dinner hour Mrs. Merwin gave an interesting talk about her memories of the early days in Wisconsin. In 1863, at the age of two years, she came from New York to Wisconsin Rapids with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Swan. In 1875, she moved to a farm near Dorchester and was married to Ben P. Merwin in the year of 1878. She lived on the Merwin homestead until 1923. Mr. Merwin passed away July 27, 1917.

Mrs. Merwin moved to Abborsford in 1924. Her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Loucks, have purchased the old homestead place.

Among those at the reunion were:

Mrs. Emily Merwin, Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Loucks and family, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Merwin and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Merwin, Abbotsford; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Merwin and family, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Merwin and family, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Merwin, Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Merwin, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Egglebrecht, Mr. and Mrs. R. Norton, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. William Ouimette, Park Falls; Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hennlich and daughter, of Curtiss; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Egglebrecht, Edgar. A son, Ernest, Pleasant Dale, Sask., Canada, was unable to be present.
