Gerth, Mathilda (11 Feb. 1879 - 23 Apr. 1942)

Last rites for Mrs. William Gerth, 63, who died Thursday evening, April 23, at her home in the Town of Holton, were held Monday afternoon. The Rev. J. Brandt conducted a service at 1:30 at the Zink funeral home, where the body had been lying in state. This was followed by services at 2:00 o’clock in Christ Evangelical Lutheran church. Internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery.

The pall bearers were: Nick Wibben, Helmuth Wirth, Alvin Jacobi, Clarence Gosse, Frank Schultz and Rudy Kugel.

The floral tributes were carried by Mrs. Clarence Gosse, Mrs. Walter Kuenzi, Mrs. John Brandt and Miss Elfrieda Schueler.

Among the relatives from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. August Doescher, Arlington, So. Dak.; Mrs. Agnes Bornhoeft, a sister-in-law, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bornhoeft, Phillips; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wiedenhoeft, Colby; Mrs. August Belter, Mrs. Otto Klemm, Wausau; Mrs. Claude Durke, Brokow.

Relatives from Abbotsford who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Franz, Mr. and Mrs. August Schueler and daughter Elfrieda, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gosse and son, Herman Schueler and Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Amacher.

Mrs. William Gerth was born Mathilda Doescher, Feb. 11, 1879, at Crete, Ill., one of eleven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Doescher.

On Dec. 10, 1901, she was united in marriage to William Gerth in Chicago. In 1911 they moved to their farm in the Town of Holton, two miles east of Abbotsford, on Highway 29, where they lived together with their only son, George, until the death of Mr. Gerth on Armistice Day, 1931.

Mrs. Gerth had been ill with heart trouble the past two and a half years. A stroke suffered on Monday night caused her death, Thursday evening, April 23.

She is survived by her son, George, at home, and three brothers, August Doescher, Arlington, So. Dak.; Carl of Sutherland, Ia., and Albert of Hartley, Ia.
