Hayes, Fred (24 FEB 1876 - 9 MAY 1950)

Fred Hayes, old time resident of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), passed away Tuesday morning, May 9th, 1950, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

Rosary services will be held at the Griebenow Funeral Home (Owen, Wisconsin) at eight o’clock tonight.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock from the Holy Rosary Church, Owen, with Fr. Raymond Bornbach officiating.

Fed Hayes passed away a week ago Tuesday, May 9th, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he was being treated for old age complications. He was 74 years of age.

Funeral services were held Friday morning from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen, Father Raymond Bornbach officiating. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lee Larson, Lyle Larson, Douglas LeGault, Ralph Probst, John Wisneski and John Crummery.

Fred Hayes, son of the late Fred Hayes, Sr., was born at Buckingham, Canada on Feb. 24, 1876, where he spent his childhood. Later the family moved to Eau Claire, when he was a youth of 14 years. As a young man he came to Owen more than 50 years ago, establishing himself as one of the community’s pioneer citizens. He was employed by the John S. Owen Lumber Co. and up until the past month had been employed at the E. W. Kidd Company.

His wife, Katherine Goneau Hayes, preceded him in death in 1935. He then made his home with his sister, Mrs. Joseph Probst. After the death of his sister in 1941, he made his home with his niece, Mrs. Dewey Walker, with the exception of a short time that he spent with his sister, Mrs. Fred Crowley.

He will be sadly missed by his relatives and many friends int his community, who will always remember him for his many kind and generous acts. Fred was a friendly fellow and a loyal friend to all of his associates.

Out of town relatives that attended the final rites were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Larson, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Larson, and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Crowley, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Probst, Mr. and Mrs. John Crummery, Mr. and Mrs. John Wisneski, Mrs. John Hotvedt and Mrs. Harry Koshnick, Stevens Point, Wis.
