The Bethany Lutheran (Finnish) congregation of this city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) will be commemorating the founding of the congregation 35 years ago by special anniversary services to be held next week, May 18 - 21. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Carl Tamminen of Calumet, Mich., who at one time served this congregation. Pastor Tamminen is much in demand as a speaker, having had wide experience in the Christian ministry. He has also served with marked success as director of Bible Camps and as the president of Suomi College. At present time, in addition to the duties of his parish, Pastor Tamminen edits the Lutheran Counselor, the official English publication of the Suomi Synod.

The 35th anniversary celebration will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday evening, May 18th, with a service in the Finnish language and at the same time Friday evening there will be another service in the Finnish language. Saturday evening, May 20, will be dedicated to the youth of the church and the services will be entirely in the English language. Worship services will be conducted on Sunday, May 21, in English at 10 a.m. and in Finnish at 11:15 a.m. Dinner will be served at noon by the ladies of the congregation, after which the festivities will come to a close with the final program in the afternoon.

Adding to the festive nature of the anniversary observance will be the messages brought in song by the church choir and the ladies choir, under the direction of Mrs. Puotinen. The choirs have been diligently rehearsing and will sing at all of Sunday’s services and also during the week.

A very good attendance is expected with many out of town guests and former members of the Bethany Lutheran Church returning for the anniversary celebration. The public is cordially invited to attend these anniversary services.
