Beyer, Martin E. (13 Sept. 1871 - 31 Oct. 1962)

Martin E. Beyer of Unity, Wisconsin died Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 11:40 A.M. at the Wolff Nursing Home at Arpin at the age of 91 years. Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, Wis., Rev. John B. Pinion officiating, and burial was made in the parish cemetery. Pall bearers were Paul Umhoefer, Ted Brill, Earl Butler, Francis Hebert, Bernard Tennis, Ben Brewer.

Mr. Beyer was born on September 13, 1871, in Germany and came to the United States with his parents in 1873. The family settled in Kentucky and in 1880 came to Wisconsin. He attended schools in Portage county and was married to Julia Winkler at Stevens Point on February 5, 1894. In 1896, they moved onto a farm near Unity, Wis. Mr. Beyer was an employee of the Soo Line Railroad for 36 years, retiring in 1937. He had been living at the nursing home the past two years.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Julia) Justman of Stratford and Mrs. George (Barbara) Speich of Greenwood; a son, Martin, Jr., (John) Beyer of Unity; five grand children; 16 great grand children; a sister, Miss Mary Beyer of Stevens Point.

His wife, two children, a sister and a brother preceded him in death.
