Apfelbeck, Virginia (Marriage - 29 Apr. 1962)

The Rev. John B. Pinion officiated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby Saturday, April 29, at 11 a.m. for the marriage of Miss Virginia Apfelbeck, daughter of the Ernest Apfelbecks of Abbotsford, and David A. Cook, son of the Roderick L. Cooks of Colby, Wis.

For her marriage Miss Apfelbeck wore silk peau desoie embellished with Alencon lace appliqués and sequins. The skirt featured shirring at the hemline, ending in a chapel train. Her veil was held by a pillbox trimmed with lace, pearls and crystals. She carried a white orchid encircled by pink roses, stephanotis and ivy. Her jewelry was a gift from the bridegroom.

Styling the frocks worn by the aides were purple velvet bodices and belled skirts of lavender satin. Bows set off the waistlines and their headbands were flat bows trimmed with petal motifs and pearls. They carried pink roses and white carnations mounted on lace fans and the pearl jewelry was received from the bride.

Miss Pearl Apfelbeck of Colby was maid of honor and the bridesmaids were Misses Catherine Steinwand of Delavan, Janice Schnelle of Marshfield, and Sharon Baumgartner of Monroe.

Their escorts were Michael Cook, best man, Leo Apfelbeck Jr., Gerald Brehm and Gary Cook, all of Colby, Wis. James Apfelbeck of Colby and Warren Cook of Antigo, shared ushering duties.

Dinner was served in St. Bernard’s Church Parish Hall at Abbotsford at noon, followed by a reception in Abbotsford Village Hall and dancing at night in Sportsmen’s Club there. Mrs. Gerald Fleming and Mrs. Myron Greaser assisted at the reception.

Both young persons are 1958 graduates of Colby High School. The bride will be graduated from Whitewater State College in June with a degree in business education and her husband will receive his degree in agricultural science at the same time from River Falls State College. He has been granted a graduate research assistantship at Iowa State University in Ames, where the couple will reside after July 15. After graduation, they will tour the West for a month, including a week at the World’s Fair in Seattle.

Mrs. Cook is affiliated with Pi Omega Pi and Kappa Delta Pi, honorary education fraternities, and her husband is a member of the latter.
