Jorgensen, Jens (19 AUG 1869 - 4 AUG 1949)

At two o’clock Monday afternoon final rites were conducted for Jens Jorgensen, pioneer settler of this community, from the Danish Lutheran Church, Withee. The Rev. L. C. Bundgaard officiated at the final rites. During the service a vocal solo was sung by Mrs. V. A. Hansen, accompanied by Miss Louis Hansen at the organ.

Pallbearers were: Hans C. Madsen, J. P. Hansen Sr., Jacob Christensen, Jess Bundensen, Peter Jensen and Paul Bladl. Flower girls were: Mrs. Julius Freitag, Mrs. Winston, Helga Anderson, Margaret Potocnik, Irene Bladl, Patty Ann Bladl, Caroline May Zaradka, Jean Jensen, Dorothy Neilsen, Mrs. V. A. Hansen and Mrs. Bundgaard.

Jens Jorgensen was born in Horsens, Denmark, on Aug. 19, 1868.

In May 1891, at the age of 21, he came to the United States, coming to Waupaca, Wis., where his brother was living. He later spent some time at Tyler, Minn., and in 1898 he came to Owen (Clark Co.), Wis.

Here he bought a piece of land north of Owen, which he developed into a farm, and on which he spent the remainder of his life. On June 10, 1901, he was united in marriage to Anine Hansen who preceded him in death on March 3, 1939.

He passed away at the Luther Hospital at Eau Claire on Aug. 4, 1949, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 15 days, after an illness of four weeks.

He is survived by his daughter, Madeline (Mrs. Wm. Hoeper) two brothers and two sisters in Denmark, a nephew and three nieces in Montana and two brothers-in-law, Charles Hansen of Owen and Fred Hansen of Minneapolis.
