Stoker, Harry (1877? - 16 JUL 1949)

The death of Harry Stoker occurred July 16, 1949 at Madison, Wis., following an illness of three years and ten months. It came as a result of several strokes. He was 72 years of age. He was the son of Richard and Alvoretta Stocker, and was born at Neillsville (Clark Co.), Wis., where his boyhood was spent.

In the year of 1893 he together with his parents came to Owen (Clark Co.) to make their home. He was employed by the John S. Owen Lumber Co., until the year 1933. Part of the time he was engineer on the logging train which brought logs into Owen from point north of the city.

In 1933 he and his wife moved to Waukesha, Wis., where he worked for the Manitowoc Church Furniture Co., until September of 1945. His wife, the former Phoebe Villemonte, will be remembered as the first regular librarian of the combined Owen Public and School library.

He was a man of exemplary habits, devoted to his family and home, ever ready to assist a friend in need.

Left to mourn his death are his wife, a son, Villemont H. Stoker of Madison, two daughters, Alvoretta of Key West, Florida, Marion of Chicago; three brothers, Ray of Sigourney, Iowa, Vern of Richey, Montana and Leighton of Abbotsford; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Iva and Eva preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Gunderson Funeral Home on Monday, July 18, the Rev. Andrew Lambright of the Plymouth Congregational Church officiating. Pallbearers were Gand J. Brockel, W. R. Lefebvre, H. Brandsness, C. O. Hastings and L. W. Premo. He was laid to rest in beautiful Roselawn Memorial Park at Madison.
