Zarada, Thomas E. #2 (7 AUG 1927 - 26 JUN 1951)

The remains of Pfc. Thomas E. Zarada, 23, who was killed in action the Korea area on June 26, 1951, arrived here (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) o the noon train Sunday and burial took place Monday morning from the Thorp Funeral Home and St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m., the Rev. Francis Piekarski officiating. Members of the Cecil Tormey Post No. 118 of the American Legion formed the military escort and paid honor to the young veteran at his last resting place in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.

Tommy was killed in action in the Korea area June 26, 1951. A veteran of 18 months of WW II, he returned to duty Oct. 10, 1950, and was sent overseas on Dec. 11th. He was hospitalized in Japan in April and May with an illness contracted in the front lines.

He fought with the 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Division and at the time of his death was 23 year of age, having been born on Aug. 7, 1927.

His widow, June B. Zarada, is now residing with her two children, with her husband’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Zarada of Thorp.

Surviving besides his wife, parents and two children, Ronald Allen, 4, and Linda Marie, 2, are four brothers, John, Frank, Richard and Robert, and five sisters, Geraldine, Irene, Ellen, Edith, Louise and Susan, all at home in Thorp.
