Thompson, Maynard H. (1 JUL 1924 - 13 FEB 1951)

The body of Pfc. Maynard H. Thompson, who was killed in Korea on Feb. 14, 1951, arrived in Stanley Sunday on the 11:55 a.m. by train.

Burial in Evergreen Cemetery followed a short service at the Plombon Funeral Home, with Rev. John Alver of Cornell officiating.

Military rites were conducted by the Thorp and Gilman American Legion Posts.

Maynard Thompson was born at Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) on July 1, 1924, and came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thompson, to Taylor County in 1941.

Before entering the service, Maynard worked for a time on his father’s farm in Taylor County and on a cattle ranch at Ten Sleep, Wyoming.

He entered the service on Oct. 30th, 1950 at Fort Lewis, Wash. And was killed in action in Korea on the 14th of February 1951 at the age of 27.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Thompson; 3 brothers: Burnell, Richard and Gerald, and 3 sisters: Mrs. Don Boardman of Thorp and Dorothy and Morene at home.
