Welsh, Richard Henry (5 June 1879 - 11 April 1951)

Richard Henry Welsh, 71, died at his home on Division Street on Wednesday, April 11, after an illness of several months.

Funeral services were conducted from the Bergemann Funeral Home and from St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday morning. A solemn requiem high mass was celebrated at the church. Rev. John H. Pritzl was celebrant, Rev. James E. Noonan, O. M. I. of Altoona was deacon and Rev. Donald Theirsen of Black River Falls was sub-deacon. Interment was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mr. Welsh was born June 5, 1879, to Mr. and Mrs. John Welsh at Shortville. He was a life long resident of Clark County. He spent his boyhood days on a farm and later moved to Neillsville with his parents. He was graduated from the Neillsville High School and also attended Stevens Point College. In 1904, he became a rural mail carrier and resigned from that position in 1919, when he became interested in a garage. He owned and operated the Chevrolet garage until he retired in 1944.

Mr. Welsh was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Holy Name Society of Jesus and the Kiwanis Club of Neillsville.

He was married to Victoria Barton on April 9, 1907, at Neillsville. Three children were born to this union. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Bert (Genevieve) Wesley of Coldwater, Mich., one son Francis Welsh of Altoona, and five grandchildren. Two brothers and one son, Joseph, preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were: Leonard St. Dennis, Nick Linster, Frank Svetlik, Joseph Zilk, Everett Skroch and Arne Peterson.

The Holy name Society and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary attended as a group.
