Turner, Abie #2 (22 JAN 1874 - 2 MAY 1944)

Abie Turner, 70, a life-long resident of the town of York, passed away at the Neillsville hospital at 2 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, of a heart attack.

Mr. Turner was an institution of the town of York, having lived his entire life near York Center. He was born on Jan. 22, 1874, the son of Abel and Arvilla Turner, on what is now known as the Leo Schecklman farm. He lived later on the nearby Lindley farm. Then finally he made his home right in the Center, just adjoining the town hall.

On Sept. 25, 1895, he was married to Harriet Lindsley. He was known as a carpenter and family man. For about 40 years he had done carpenter work in Clark county, mostly around home.

He is survived by his wife and eight children; Mrs. Emil (Mable) Schoenfeld of York, George and Wilbur of Neillsville, Cpl. Clayton Turner in Australia, Myron Turner, CM1/c, of San Francisco, Victor of Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. James (Harriet) Triska of Berwyn, Ill., and Orville of Chicago, 12 grandchildren, Two brothers, Ben and Warren, of Loyal. Three children, Grant, Price and Berdine preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the York Center Methodist church Friday afternoon, May 5, at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. Myron E. Taylor officiating. Interment took place in the York cemetery.

Pallbearers were Will Benedict, Jesse Mortimer, Walter Rowe, Fred Kier, George Hales and John Davis.

In charge of flowers were Mrs. Roy Chase, Mrs. Lawrence Vandeberg, Mrs. Carl Buddinger, Mrs. Gilbert Lawrence and June Voight.

The Tribune extends to the bereaved its sympathy in the loss of a loved one.
