Truckey, Joseph Anton (15 September 1944 - 18 December 2008)

Joseph A. Truckey, age 64, of Thorp passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield on Thursday, December 18, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2008, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Fr. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and burial followed in Old St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Tim Tieman, Mark Truckey, Travis Tieman, Ryan Budzinski, Jason Budzinski, and Emory Budzinski. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Fifer, Dave Mohr, Dick Hallin, Gib Voelker, Jerry7 Nowak, and Bill Budzinski.

Visitation was held on Sunday, December 21, 2008, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a 6:45 Loyal Order of Moose service and a 7:00 p.m. Rosary service. Visitation was also held at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Joseph Anton Truckey was born on September 15, 1944, in Stanley, WI to Louis and Anna (Twarowski) Truckey. He was raised on the family farm, in Thorp, and received his education in the Thorp area, graduating from Thorp High School in 1962. Joe then attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis for two years, earning a degree in printing. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Budzinski on August 22, 1964 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Joe worked at the Thorp Courier until 1983, and then purchased the Silver Dollar Bar, south of Thorp, which they operated until his death.

He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, the Thorp Loyal Order of Moose, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Joe drove school bus for many years, served on the Thorp Catholic School board, was a volunteer fireman and EMT, and was a Boy Scout Leader.

He had many interests, but especially enjoyed hunting turkey and deer, and fishing.

Joe will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary Ann, of Thorp; five children: Randy Truckey of Thorp, Lori (Mike) Kopacz of Amery, Rick Truckey of Thorp, Lisa (Dean) Lis of Neillsville, and Leslie (Joe) Hallin of Thorp; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two brothers: Roger Truckey of Milwaukee and Arnold Truckey (Sue Gilbertson) of Seymour.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given in Joe’s memory.
