Klay, Esther (23 JUN 1949)

At St. John’s Lutheran Church in Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), on Thursday, June 23, 1949, Miss Esther Klay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Klay, Withee, became the bride of Norman Baehr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baehr of Withee. The Rev. Walter Schedler read the double ring ceremony.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a gown of white marquisette over slipper satin fashioned with a bertha collar, fitted bodice, and hoop skirt. The train was edged with Chantilly lace. Lace trimmed with orange blossoms, made the crown that held her veil in place. She carried a colonial bouquet of white roses.

The gowns worn by the bridesmaids were styled like the bridal gown with four tiers of lace at the bottom of the skirt. Their veils were attached to bonnets, and they wore matching mitts. Carnations made their colonial bouquets.

In yellow, Miss Marjorie Emerson, Milwaukee, served as maid of honor, while the bridesmaids, Miss Elaine Baehr, Withee, and Miss Beverly Stensberg, Mosinee, were dressed in blue.

Arthur Nevala, Withee, was the best man. Also attending the bridegroom were Norbert and Vernon Baehr, both of Withee. John Klay, Cadott and Verona Baehr, Withee, were the ushers.

Dorene Quell, as flower girl, was dressed in pink marquisette over pink satin and carried a colonial bouquet. William Kenney was the ring bearer.

An aqua bemberg sheer print was worn by the mother of the bride when she attended the ceremony and the reception in the church basement. Her corsage was of aqua and white carnations. The bridegroom’s mother pinned a corsage of pink and white carnations to her navy blue print crepe. She wore black accessories.

Mr. and Mrs. Baehr are both graduates of Eau Claire State Teachers College. She was the kindergarten teacher at Mosinee grade school, and she was an instructor at St. John’s Military Academy at Delafield.
