Stanley, Leon (27 May 1889 - 5 November 1970)

Funeral services for Leon Stanley, 83, Rt. 1 Neillsville, who died November 5, were held on Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. Melvin Nickel of the United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Stanley was born in Clark County on May 27, 1889, to Charles and Esther (Sears) Stanley. He received his education in the Neillsville area, attending the Reed School. He entered military service on June 14, 1918, and served in the European Theater with the American Expeditionary forces from October 6, 1918 until October 18, 1919. After his discharge from military service on October 25, 1919, Mr. Stanley returned to the home farm in Clark County. He was married to the former Nellie Pexas in Neillsville on December 1, 1920. They lived on the same farm in the Town of Grant until the time of his death, which followed a lingering illness. Mr. Stanley was a member of Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post No. 73.

Survivors in addition to his wife, include four sons, Duane of Indianapolis, Lawrence of Marshfield, Dale of Stanley, and Raymond of Neillsville. He is further survived by a brother, Roy Stanley, Neillsville and by nine grandchildren.

Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery, where military rites were also conducted by members of the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post No. 73.

Pallbearers were: Dave Krutsch, Allen Stanley, Gale Bernett, Clarion Counsell, Leo R. Korth, and Herman Tesmer. Miss Julie Schmidt sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “In the Garden” accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

People from out-of-town who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Duane Stanley, Indianapolis, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Stanley and family, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stanley, Robert and Rodney, of Grayslake, Ill.; Mr and Mrs. R. E. Vaughn, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Gale Bernett, Sparta; and Mr. and Mrs. Theamore Vine and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Stanley, of Granton.
