Gauerke, Alice (Marriage - 20 OCT 1938)

In the Emmanuel Evangelical church of Athens, this morning at ten o’clock, on the 30th wedding anniversary of her parents, Miss Alice Theresa Gauerke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Gauerke of Athens, became the bride of Lester B. Lewis, son of Sam Lewis of Abbotsford, Wis. The Rev. James M. Le Count read the services.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, met her bridegroom in a pale blue satin gown. She wore a coronet head-dress of brilliants and a blue scalloped face veil. Her arm bouquet was of pink roses and white pom poms.

The maid of honor, Miss Sylvia A. Gauerke, wore a blue satin gown, silver coronet and sliver slippers. Yellow chrysanthemums and white pom poms made up her arm bouquet.

The bridesmaid, Miss Esther L. Gauerke, wore a gold satin gown, gold coronet and slippers. She carried an arm bouquet of chrysanthemums, asters and pom poms.

The groom was attended by his brother, George Lewis of St. Cloud, Minn., and Norman Emling of Abbotsford, Wis.

Miles Mauritz and Walter Gauerke acted as ushers.

The bride’s mother wore a teal blue frock trimmed with gold and wore a corsage of sweet peas.

Mrs. P. Haberman played Lohengren’s Wedding March as a processional and Mendelssohn’s Wedding March as a recessional. During the ceremony, Miss Mabel Gauerke, cousin of the bride, sang "At Dawning" and "Because". She was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. P. Haberman.

After the ceremony a reception and dinner were held at the home of the bride’s parents. Twenty guests were served. The home was decorated with cut flowers and baby blue, yellow and white streamers joined to a white wedding bell.

Among the guests from away who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lewis, Miles Mauritz, Mrs. Louis Mauritz, Mrs. Harry Emling, Norman Emling, Mrs. Joe Beil, all of Abbotsford, and George Lewis of St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis left on a trip to southern Wisconsin and Minnesota. They will be at home to their friends about November 1st.

Mr. Lewis manages the Lewis Dairy. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, having received his M. S. degree in 1937. His bride is a graduate of the Athens High School and has been employed in Madison until her marriage.
