Leahey, Robert "Bob" A. Sr. (14 JAN 1930 - 12 SEP 2013)

Robert "Bob" A. Leahey Sr., 83, Rib Lake, died surrounded by his family and under hospice care on Thursday, Sept. 12 at his home.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with full military honors and Father Otto Bucher officiating. Cremainal inurnment will take place at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake.

Active pallbearers are his grandchildren, Robert, Megan, Teresa, Kathryn and Mitchell Leahey, Jennifer, Brittany, Patrick Jr. and Kimberley Giannini, and Christopher, Jason and Kelly Roberts. Honorary pallbearer is his great-granddaughter, Ayla Grayce Roberts.

Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

Robert Leahey was born on January 14, 1930 in Chicago, IL, to the late Thomas F. and Kathryn M. (Phillips) Leahey. He graduated from St. Phillips High School in Chicago. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict.

On May 1, 1954 at Presentation Church in Chicago, he married Anna Mae M. Duchene, who survives. He worked at the United States Post Office in LaGrange, IL, for a year and a half, then as a cable splicer and was promoted to manager then state supervisor for Illinois Bell Telephone Company in Chicago, where he worked for 34 years until retirement in 1985.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and Moose Lodge in River Grove, IL. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, gardening, reading about history, and the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four children, Linda (Timothy) Roberts of Cary, IL, Robert (Laura Fallon) Leahey Jr. of Harvard, IL, Kathleen (Patrick) Giannini Sr. of River Grove, IL, and Timothy (Barbara) Leahey of Rochelle, IL; a brother, Thomas (Dorothy) Leahey of Williamsburg, VA.; a sister, Joan Pope of Plainfield, IL; a sister-in-law, Clara Leahey of AZ; three brothers-in-law, Harry Duchene of Salt Lake City, UT, Eugene (Marie) Duchene of Huntington Beach, CA, and Alfred Duchene of Fort Collins, CO; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Leahey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to his family to be designated at a later date.
