Colby, Wis. - Oct. 31, 1957

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boss were Thursday evening visitors at the Ted Frome home.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Homer Smith of the town of Hull at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital October 28.

Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Dessloch attended funeral services for the former’s aunt at Plymouth Saturday.

Mrs. Anthony L. Schemmer attended a board meeting of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women at La Crosse Tuesday.

Mrs. Herman Strathman, son, Arnie, and son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Strathman, and son spent Sunday at Green Lake with her sister.

Mrs. Edna Dins, son, Allen, and daughter, Rita, spent the week-end at Fort Atkinson with relatives. They also attended the wedding of a friend of Allen’s at Madison.

Mrs. Anthony L. Schemmer, Mrs. Arma Schultz and Mrs. Paul Tesmer, officers of St. Mary’s Court 1066 of the W.R.O.F., attended the annual district meeting at Merrill Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Riedel, former proprietors of the Four Corners Cheese Factory, Curtiss, Route 1, have moved to Colby, Wis. The Larry Spaeth family of Stratford have taken over the cheese factory.

Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Frome and children were Sunday visitors at the Ted Frome home. They came after their son, Dennis, who spent the week-end with his grand parents while his parents attended the football game at Madison.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Frome received word that a son, Theodore Kenneth, was born October 20 to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hardy of El Cajon, Calif. The Hardys have another son, age four. Mrs. Hardy is the former Janet Frome.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ebert of Wausau at the Memorial Hospital, Wausau, October, 27. Mrs. Ebert is the former Jean Laack of Abbotsford and Robert is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ebert of Colby, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Thiede returned home from New Holstein after a two weeks’ absence. They were called by the serious illness and death of Mr. Thede’s mother, Mrs. Cella Thede (Aggen), who passed away October 17.

Mrs. John Coates, Mrs. Harriet Johnson, Mrs. Emma Zillmer, Miss Lydia Jones and Mrs. Anthony L. Schemmer, officers of the Blue Sky Garden Club, attended the Fox River Valley District State Officers Day meeting at Antigo, Wednesday.

Mrs. Ivan Larson of Marshfield and Mrs. Wallace Sossaman spent Saturday at Chippewa Falls and Cameron where they picked up Mr. Larson, returning home in the evening. Floyd and Ralph Sossaman of Milwaukee spent Saturday with their folks, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Sossaman and their sister, Dixie.

Army Pvt. Karl W. Hofman, age 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hofman of Colby, Route 1, recently completed a period of tank gunnery training at Camp Irwin, Calif. Hofman has returned to Fort Riley, Kan., where he is a tank crewman in Company D of the 69th Armor’s 1st Medium Tank Battalion. He has been in the U.S. Army since last May. Hofman, a graduate of Colby High School, worked for the Johnson Block and Silo Company before entering the army.

Mrs. David Stieber, as recruiting chairman of Colby for the Clark County Blood Bank, wishes to thank the ladies who made the house to house canvas in Colby, Wis. They were Mrs. Marge Frane, Audrey Stieber, Mrs. Agnes Schorer, Dorothy Schjoneman, Gertrude Schrieber, Erma Singstock, Joann Lein, Marion Loos, Magdeline Weix, Jean Pachard, Elaine Hanson. They recruited 50 donors who gave blood at Abbotsford on October 22.
