Sandstrom, Clara (5 November 1935 - 8 November 2008)

Clara E. Sandstrom, 73, of Stevens Point passed away peacefully Saturday morning, Nov. 8, 2008, at home surrounded by her family.

She was born Nov. 5, 1935, in Sobieski to the late Joseph and Clara (Stopka) Gaura. Clara was a 1953 graduate of Pulaski High School and a 1957 graduate of the Neenah/Menasha Vocational School of Practical Nursing. She married the love of her life Robert Sandstrom, June 22, 1957, at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Sobieski. She was a seamstress making wedding dresses and a homemaker. She was a member of St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover and the St. Peter’s Rosary Society and enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, bowling, bingo, polka dancing, sports, camping and cribbage.

Clara is survived by her husband, Robert of Stevens Point; three daughters, Denys (William) Kaskavitch of Weston, Darlene (Patrick Rossow) Kenowski of Neillsville and Dyann (Kenneth) Rimer of Baldwin; daughter-in-law, Karla Sandstrom of Stevens Point; grandchildren, Adam and Claire Sandstrom, Michael Sandstrom and Michelle Sandstrom, all of Stevens Point, Matthew Kaskavitch of Menomonie, Kayla, Alexa, and Elana Rimer, all of Baldwin, and Joel Kaskavitch of Wausau; great-grandchildren, Carter Sandstrom and Justin, Jordan and Jaycee Holzem; four sisters, Julia Pszanka, Stella Matthews, Christina Tilque and Elizabeth Oskey; sisters-in-law, Alice Gaura and Jane Gaura; one brother, Isadore Gaura; two brothers-in-law, Ervin Oskey and Stanley Grochowski.

In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Sandstrom; son-in-law, Michael Kenowski; two sisters, Lottie Grochowski and Mary Kariotis; two brothers, Peter and Tony Gaura; four brothers-in-law, Thaddeus Pszanka, Peter Matthews, Richard Tilque and Constantine Kariotis; one sister-in-law, Marie Gaura; and two nieces who were very close to Clara’s heart, Elaine Matthews and Patricia Pszanka.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church, Plover with the Rev. James Trempe officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date.
