Trunkel, John Sr. (1852 - 31 MAR 1938)

John Trunkel Sr., better known as Grandpa Trunkel, was born in 1852 at Liebah, Austria. He was married while there. Mrs. Trunkel passed away in Austria.

In 1893 Mr. Trunkel and his two sons came to the United States, settling in Joliet, Ill., where they resided for 28 years, coming to Willard (Clark Co., Wis.), and has lived with his son John for the past 7 years. He was the last of his family and was the oldest resident of Willard, being 86 years of age.

He passed away at the home of his son John at Willard at 2:50 o'clock Thursday afternoon, March 31, 1938. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 o'clock at the Holy Family Church on Saturday, April 2. Rev. John Trinko officiated. Burial was made in the Willard Cemetery.

He is survived by his two sons, Anton and John of Willard, seven grandchildren, Mrs. John Snedic of Greenwood, Ann Mae Trunkel of Ottowa, Ill., Anton, Edward, Rudie and John, all of Willard; 3 great-grandchildren, Billy and Jimmie Snedic of Greenwood, and Anthony Trunkel of Willard.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Joliet, Ill. He was well liked by all who knew him and loved the woods and animals. He was a good friend and neighbor.

The pallbearers were Louis Koschak, Frank Zupanc, Anton Debevec, Anton Krainz, Frank Lesar Sr. and John Zupancic.
