Riley, Kathleen (26 JUL 1947)

Miss Kathleen Riley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Riley of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), and Floyd J. Clifton, also of Owen, were married at the Holy Rosary Church, Owen, at a nine-thirty nuptial mass on Saturday morning, July 26, 1947. Rev. Bornbach performed the ceremony.

Miss Irene Sapetta was the vocal soloist, rendering two selection during the ceremony, while Mrs. W. K. Doonan was the accompanist and played the wedding march and processional.

The bride wore a white satin gown with a fitted bodice and a net skirt with a long train. Her fingertip veil was caught by a crown of tiny white bells. She carried a bridal bouquet of baby breath and red carnations. Her only jewelry was a string of three-strand pearls, a gift of the groom.

The bride’s attendants were Misses Donna Clifton, a sister of the groom, and Betty Devine, a close friend of the young couple. Miss Devine, maid of honor, wore a gown of white marquisette with a blusher veil, and both carried bouquets of yellow carnations and pink gladioli, and wore a double strand of pearls, which were gifts of the bride.

The flower girl, Judy Foster of Colby, cousin of the bride, was dressed in white net over taffeta, trimmed with lace, and carried a bouquet of yellow carnations and gladioli, and wore a gold locket, a gift of the bride.

The groom was attended by James Gummerson, Owen, a close friend of the couple, and Kenneth Foster, Marshfield, a cousin of the bride.

Following the ceremony, a breakfast was served to the immediate bridal party by Mrs. N. C. Lehnen at the Woodland Hotel.

At one o’clock a reception and dinner was held at the Woodland Hotel, which was attended by 84 relatives and friends of the newlyweds. That evening the couple were honored at a wedding dance given for them at Merry Ol’ Gardens, after which they left on their wedding trip through southern Wisconsin.

Both of the young people are well known in this community, having resided here practically all of their lives. Both are graduates of the Owen High School. The bride, for several years, has been an employed of the Master Package Corp., while the bridegroom spent two years in the United States Navy, and is now employed as a baker with the Tan Top Bakery at Eau Claire. Following their honeymoon the newlyweds will be at home to their friends at Eau Claire.
