Wittke, Ethel (29 July 1887 - 23 November 1949)

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, November 26, 1949 at the Georgas Funeral home for Mrs. August Wittke, who died on Wednesday of a heart attack in a local physician’s office. Interment was made in the Neillsville city Cemetery, Rev. Alfred Schewe officiating.

Ethel Schummel was born July 29, 1887, in Clark County. She received her education in the rural schools here. On September 30, 1903, she was married to August Wittke at Neillsville. They farmed in Pine Valley for some time. About three and one half years ago they moved to Humbird, where they lived for two years. They moved to Neillsville one and one-half years ago.

On October 20, this year, just 33 days ago, Mr. Wittke died. Since that time Mrs. Wittke lived with her daughter, Mrs. Clayton Turner, on North Hewett Street. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Irving (Blanche) Payne, Rochester, Minn., and Mrs. Clayton (Olga) Turner, Neillsville, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; also three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Grace) Wittke, Mrs. Bruce (Nellie) Armitage, Neillsville and Mrs. Asa (Blanche) Darling of West Allis, Wis.

Pallbearers were Rudolph Wegner, Dick Brown, Lyle Armitage, Leo Printz, Mearl Young and Emil Schoenfeldt.

Mrs. Rudolph Wegner and Mrs. Harry Gehrt were in charge of flowers. Wilfred Galstad sang a selection, accompanied by Victor Lehman.

Those from out of town attending the rites were Mr. and Mrs. Irving Payne of Rochester, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wittke of Almond, Wis.; Mrs. Fay Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kalbes, Mr. and Mrs. Asa Darling all of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Bud Wittke of Black River Falls; Duane Sternitzky of Madison; Carl Sternitzky, Donald, and Pattie Sternitzky of Granton; Mrs. Henry Kuester, (balance was missing).
