Holub, Joseph (27 August 1874 - 4 October 1948)

Joseph Holub, Sr., 74, of the Town of Levis, died Monday evening, after an illness of five weeks. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 o’clock, at the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. Virgil Nulton will officiate. Burial will take place in the Dells Dam Cemetery.

Mr. Holub was born in Czechoslovakia on August 27, 1874. In 1888, at the age of 14, Mr. Holub came to the United States with his parents, and located in Chicago. At the age of 18 he went to Prairie du Chien, where he farmed for six years; then moved to Minnesota, where he was married in 1905 to Frieda Karela. He worked for the railroad in Chicago for a time. Thirty-five years ago he and his family settled in the Town of Levis on the farm now owned by his son, Edward.

Mr. and Mrs. Holub had six children, all of whom survive, as does his widow. They are: Ladd, Joseph, Jr., George, Ervin, Edward, and Mrs. Fred (Lillian) McCarty, all of Neillsville.

Funeral services for Joseph Holub, Sr., who died October 4, were held last Thursday at 2:00 o’clock in the Georgas Funeral Home. Burial took place in the Dells Dam Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mr. Holub’s five sons, Ladd, Edward, Ervin, George, and Joseph, Jr. and Charles Shramek. Mrs. Louise Lautenbach and Mrs. Fred Subke were flower ladies.

Those who came from out-of-town to attend the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Karela and son, of Brookfield, Ill.; Mrs. Francis Kopriva of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Morris Paulson of San Pierri, Ind., and Mrs. Sylvia Smith of North Judson, Ind.
