Jenks, Romeyn M. (4 JUN 1877 - 2 OCT 1942)

Romeyn M. Jenks, 65, was found dead in the garage of his home here at 5:45 p.m. Friday by his wife. He had been shot through the roof of his mouth with a .32 caliber revolver.

Mrs. Jenks called a physician, who in turn summoned Coroner Herbert L. Brown, and the latter pronounced the case a suicide and said no inquest would be necessary. No reason for the act was assigned.

Mr. Jenks was born in Jefferson county on June 4, 1877, the son of George and Mariah Jenks. He attended the district school and the Lake Mills high school, graduating in 1896. After teaching school for a years and a half, he became interested in creamery work, came to Loyal in 1898 and purchased the Loyal Separator Association Creamery, which he operated for a year. His brothers, John K. and Arthur H. Jenks, then entered a partnership with him, and the three operated the enterprise for two more years.

In 1901 Mr. Jenks entered the private bank of Lawrence Brothers in Loyal, was made assistant cashier of the Loyal State Bank in 1903, and cashier in 1905.

His marriage to Elva Graves, daughter of the Late Mr. and Mrs. George Graves of Loyal, took place on May 4, 1904, and she, with two daughters and a son, survives him. The children are Millard, a corporal in the air corps at Las Vegas, N. M.; Isabel, a nurse in California, and Alice, at Madison.

The family lived in Madison for a number of years, Mr. and Mrs. Jenks returning to Loyal a few years ago.

The body was shipped to Madison Sunday where funeral services were held on Tuesday, with interment at Madison.
