Fischer, Geraldine G. (Marriage - 7 Apr. 1956)

Miss Geraldine G. Fischer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Fischer of Unity, and Orville J. Vick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. Vick of Stratford, exchanged marriage vows in Zion Lutheran Church in Colby Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. O. Hoffman performing the marriage ceremony. As the bride approached the altar on the arm of her father, Marvin Schnabel of Unity sang "Because." During the ceremony, he sang "The Lord’s Prayer" with organ accompaniment by Helen Gust of Stratford.

Carrying a bouquet of pink tea roses and lilies of the valley surrounding a white orchid, the bride wore a gown of traditional satin, lace and tulle. Lace appliqué formed the square neckline and extended to a point at the waist. Beginning as a peplum in front, an overskirt of tulle edged with a wide lace border was cut longer at the sides and ended in the satin lined court train. Her finger-tip veil was secured to an open-crowned pillbox of lace and tulle adorned with sequins and pearls.

Identically styled gowns with deep cuffs at the seam of the long torso and full skirts were worn by the attendants, who were Miss Sharon Fischer of Spencer, a niece of the bride, as maid of honor, and the three bridesmaids, Cairgone Molle, Norene Buetsch and Betty Mews, all of Unity.

Shirred lace alternated with wide net ruffles to form the skirts of their floor-length dresses, and lace boleros fashioned with cap sleeves were worn over the strapless bodices.

Nose veils tied at the back with velvet streamers were attached to open-crowned hats matching their dresses - white for the maid of honor and petal pink for the other attendants. Their flowers were tea roses and lilies of the valley.

Eugene Vick, Stratford, attended his brother as best man with the bride’s brother, Dick Fischer and two Stratford residents, Jim Weisenberger and Virgil Reckner, as groomsmen.

The bride’s mother wore a navy blue dress with pink accessories and the groom’s mother wore a navy frock with light blue accessories. Pink tea roses and lilies of the valley formed their corsages.

After the wedding, the reception and supper were held in Unity at the home of the bride’s brother, Donald, followed by a wedding dance at the Riverview Ballroom of Stratford.

The groom is a graduate of Stratford High and the bride is a graduate of Colby High School. They will make their home near Unity. The groom is employed at the Roddis Plywood Corp. in Marshfield.
