Wood, James Arnold (27 August 1879 - 24 March 1946)

Funeral services for James A. Wood, 66, were conducted Wednesday afternoon, March 27, (1946) from the Schiller Funeral Home and the Methodist Church in Greenwood. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery. He died Sunday, March 24 (1946), from a heart attack.

Mr. Wood was born at Valley Junction August 27, 1879. For the past three years he has made his home in Clark County. Prior to that he lived in Chippewa County, where he engaged in farming. In Clark County he made his home with his family near Globe and also with his son, Kenneth.

On December 23, 1900, he was married to Edith Hancock, who died in 1919. Ten children were born, two of whom preceded him in death. On June 24, 1930 he was again married to Myra Bugbee at Winona, Minn. Seven children were born to them, five of whom survive.

The widow and 13 children survive, of whom the following live in this area: Kenneth of Withee, Laverne of Greenwood, and Alberta, Francis, George, Addison and Ronald, at home near Greenwood. There were also 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

GREENWOOD - Funeral services for James A. Wood, 66, who passed away March 25, were held March 27 (1946) at the Grace Methodist Church in Greenwood. The Rev. Alex J. Abbott officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

During the service Ilene and Irene Abbott, accompanied by Mrs. John Meng, sand, "Lord, I’m Coming Home," "Lead Kindly Light," and "Only Shadows."

Pallbearers were: John Gotz of Holcombe; Chris Peterson, Withee; Clarence Vandeberg, Owen; Fred Schmidt, Martin Afkend and Fred Busch of Greenwood.

James A. Wood, son of Henry and Elizabeth (Tilly) Wood, was born at Valley Junction, Monroe County August 27, 1879. For the past three years he made his home at Globe and with his son, Kenneth, in Withee.

He is survived by his wife and 13 children: Lawrence of Holcombe; Mildred, Mrs. John Kohls of Jacksonport, Wis.; Leah, Mrs. Eldor Walden (Wolden) of Kendall; Kenneth of Withee; Virgil, Mrs. Harry Berwiebe (Verwiebe) of Kendall; Doris, Mrs. Kristel Kraig of Minneapolis; Laverne of Greenwood; Earl of Jacksonport; Francis, Alberta, George, Addison and Ronald, and one stepson, Sherman, all at home; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three brothers, Ernest of Milstone; Bert of Ontario, Wis.; Charles of Sparta; and one sister, Mrs. Eugene Wanderwalker of Pine Island, Minn.
