Carl Alexander Stenman was born on December 18, 1880 in Helsingfors, Finland. Both of Mr. Stenman’s parents passed away when he was very young. In 1902 he came to New York City, from there he went to Seattle, Washington where he was employed in a lumber company. From Seattle he sailed for over a year on an English ship, "Astoria." This ship took him to various South American ports, Belgium, and finally England. He then came back to the United States and settled for a time in Waukegan, Ill., where he was married to Matilda Maria Tulikangas on March 23, 1907. Three children were born of this union: Carl, Helga and Lila.

In May, 1911, they came to the farm near Owen in Clark county.

After suffering from ill health for several years, Carl Stenman passed away at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, on January 26, attaining the age of 63 years, one month, and eight days.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Matilda, three children, Carl Olaf, who is on the home farm, Helga of Los Angeles, Calif., Lila (Mrs. Gerald Luther) of Marshfield, and two grandchildren, Thomas and Patricia Luther.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, January 30, at 2 p.m. from the Griebenow Funeral Home (Owen, Wisconsin) at Owen. Interment was in the Riverside cemetery. Rev. C. S. Matthews officiated and the Marking sisters sang, accompanied by Mildred Thompson, on the piano.
