Christman, Joseph (21 JUL 1889 - 4 FEB 1942)

Joseph Christman, 52, died of a lingering illness at his home in Loyal at 10 o’clock Wednesday night, Feb. 4, 1942. He had been ill for over two years.

Joseph George Christman, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Balthasar Christman, was born July 21, 1889, in Hewitt, and had been a resident of Loyal since he was two years old. He was educated in Loyal Public schools and after completing his schooling worked in his father’s mill.

While employed in the mill he lost the sight of one eye through an accident. Later he became the owner and operator of a garage here and remained in that business until the sight in his other eye failed about 28 years ago. He attended the Janesville School for the Blind, where he learned to use a typewriter proficiently and read by the Braille method.

Surviving are three brothers, John and Tony of Loyal and Pete of Park Falls, and four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kilbourne and Mrs. Caroline Andraska of Loyal, Mrs. Kate Emerson of Wisconsin Rapids and Mrs. Stanley R. Scott of Portland, Ore.

A sister, Mrs. C. B. Esselman, died in 1940.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 9 o’clock in St. Anthony’s Catholic church here, with the Rev. Fr. Aloys Zinthefer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were William Murphy, Henry Vogel, Lawrence Davel, Matt Beaver, Carl Gerdes and Roman Braun.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral or called to extend sympathy were Mrs. L. Emerson, Mrs. L. Panzar and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Andrasla, Wisconsin Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Andraska and children, Park Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Flick, Fairchild; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pierce and Miss Anna Lebinski, Humbird, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Beirce, Neillsville.
