Woelffer, Nina May (13 May 1876 - 10 Aug. 1945)

Funeral services for Mrs. Nina May Woelffer, 69, who died at her home in Deerfield, on August 10, 1945, were held Sunday, August 12, at the Cole-Schiller funeral home at 3:30 p.m. Rev. George W. Longenecker of the Congregational church officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville cemetery.

Dr. Sarah Rosekrans sang "The Lord’s Prayer," accompanied by Mrs. Jess Scott.

Nina May Hommel was born May 13, 1876 in Neillsville, to Col. J. W. and Charlotte Hommel. She was married to Victor C. Woelffer on June 15, 1904, in the city. All of her early life was spent here and she received her education in the Neillsville schools. In 1940 she moved with her husband to Cambridge, Wis., where they lived for a year before they moved to Deerfield, where they have since made their residence. Mrs. Woelffer’s father, Col. Hommel, was an officer with the American forces during the time of the Spanish-American war, and had always been a prominent man in all civic activities of the city of Neillsville. He preceded her in death in 1926, and her mother died several years before that. Her step-mother, Mrs. Ida Hommel, died in October of 1940.

Mrs. Woelffer had been a very faithful worker in the Congregational church in Neillsville during her many years of residence here.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters: Marie, Mrs. A. C. Covell, Neillsville; Irma, Mrs. Kenneth Maguire, Deerfield; Jane, Mrs. Ricahrd Lind, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mrs. Maguire’s husband, Capt. Maguire, is now serving in the army stationed in Munich, Germany. Mrs. Lind’s husband, Petty Officer 1/c Lind, is stationed with the navy on the west coast. One brother, Dr. P. R. V. Hommel, Elkader, Ia., also survives. Four grandchildren survive. They are: Charlotte and William Covell, and John and Jane Maguire. Two children, Charlotte and John, died in infancy; and two sisters of Mrs. Woelffer preceded her in death. They are Lula and Ethelyn. Lula died nearly 30 years ago, and Ethelyn died when a baby.

Relatives and friends from away who were here to attend the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Ketel and Mrs. Carl Gerold of Port Washington and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Warner of Greenwood.

Pallbearers were: Lewis Bradbury, O. W. Schoengarth, J. L. Neverman, Ernest Snyder, J. E. Ketel and N. F. Toptine.
