Abegglen, Gordon A. (July 31, 1923 - April 14, 2008)

Gordon A. Abegglen, 84, Colby passed away Monday, April 14, 2008 at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen where he had resided since July 2, 2005.

Gordon was born July 31, 1923 to Albert and Lydia (Ploeckelman) Abegglen in Stetsonville, WI. He attended Pleasant Valley School in Stetsonville until the 8th grade. Later Gordon moved to Madison, where he enrolled in the Agricultural Short Course. He returned to Stetsonville and worked on his father’s farm and other farm operations in the area.

On June 16, 1951, Gordon married Ivadeane Smith at Zion Lutheran Church in Stetsonville. They later moved to Colby where they started to farm and raise their children. Gordon was committed to farming, it was his life and his passion. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling with his wife Ivadeane. Gordon was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, Wis.

He is survived by his wife Ivadeane, his children; Arlyn (Joyce) Abegglen, Spencer, Dale Abegglen, Abbotsford, Cheryl (Frank) Smith, Battle Creek, MI , Renae Nelson, Mesa, AZ, Lorna (Lee) Preston, Raleigh, NC.; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Gordon is further survived by two sisters and two brothers; Adeline (Lester) Schoenike, Waukesha, Janet (Marvin) Schrader, Sheboygan, Donald Abegglen, Stetsonville and Alvin (Genevieve) Abegglen, Stetsonville. Also survived by other relatives and friends. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and his great grandson, Hunter Abegglen.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, Wis. Rev. Mark Neumann will preside. Burial will be in the Colby Memorial cemetery (Colby, Wisconsin).

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers the Abegglen Family will be setting up a memorial at a later time.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Colby is assisting Gordon’s family with all arrangements.
