Wellman, Ella E. (6 Mar 1917 - 23 Mar 2008)

Ella E. Wellman, 91, Colby died Thursday, April, 10, 2008 at the Colonial Center.

Funeral Services will be Monday, April 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church Abbotsford, Wis. Rev. Dr. Paul C. Hunsicker will preside.

Burial will be in Colby Memorial cemetery (Colby, Wisconsin). Pallbearers will be Joseph, John, Jason, Kevin, Holly Wellman, Bradley Franklin, Sharon Tucker and Valerie Schultz. Friends may call at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home, Abbotsford on Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

Ella was born in the Town of Hill, Marathon County, on March 6, 1917 to the late Evald and Emma (Haas) Wiersig.

She married Elmer Wellman on July 9, 1942, at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, Wis. Ella worked a brief time at a shoe factory in Marshfield.

In 1945, Ella and Elmer purchased as farm in the Town of Hull and farmed until retirement in 1977, soon after which they moved to the City of Colby, Wis.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She enjoyed tending her summer flower garden, playing cards, working jigsaw puzzles and word search puzzles.

Ella is survived by her children, Gloria (Norm) Bachmann, Murrieta, CA, Roger Wellman, Unity, LeRoy Wellman, Spencer, Sharon Franklin, Madison, Wayne (Christine) Wellman, Kingston, IL, Bonnie Schultz, Abbotsford and Randy (Shirley) Wellman, Colby: seventeen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda (Leonard) Dommer, Colby and Olga Behrens, Colby, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on July 24, 1993; on grandson; on sister, Frieda Wiersig; and two brothers, Reinhardt and Harold Wiersig.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
