Joseph Brauneis was born in Osterhofen, Bavaria, March 14, 1867. After a grade school education and confirmation he became a baker’s apprentice.

As a young man he came to the United States, first at New York, where he spent several years, and then to Chicago. In 1893 he was united in marriage to Bertha Bluemel in Chicago. Their three children are: Arthur, now of Chicago; Joseph W., of Fairbault, Minn., and Elsie, deceased in 1930. Mrs. Brauneis passed away in 1927. A year later he was married to Mrs. Elizabeth Kurtz of Chicago, who survives.

In 1915 the family moved to Greenwood, first to seven miles northwest of here on a farm, and later to the 19-acre farm in the south city limits.

In 1916 four of the family affiliated with Trinity Lutheran Church. For at least 10 years Mr. Brauneis filled the office of deacon and trustee.

He was a patient at the Neillsville Hospital from June 28 to July 1, after a series of heart attacks; but had since been about as usual. He was found dead in bed last Wednesday morning.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Arthur and Joseph, a daughter-in-law, three step-sons, Adolph Kurtz of Chicago, Tom Kurtz of Chicago and George Kurtz of Stevens Point; two step-daughter-in-laws, three grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
