Wetzel, Clarence (19 April 1916 - 23 June 1944)

Clarence Wetzel, aged 28 years, died in Chicago on June 23, as a result of an accident suffered several weeks ago. The body was brought to Neillsville, and funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon, June 27, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, preceded by brief services at the Jaster Funeral Home. The Rev. William A. Baumann was the officiating pastor. Burial took place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Clarence Wetzel was born in Neillsville April 19, 1916, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Wetzel. He attended the public schools and St. John’s Lutheran School, and was confirmed in St. John’s Church in 1929. In 1935, he was married to Ruth Ingbam of Willard. Soon after their marriage they went to live in Chicago, where he has been employed by a trucking company.

He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Diana, and by his parents who reside in the town of Pine Valley. Five sisters also survive: Evelyn, Mrs. Oscar Walk, Savannah, Ill.; Agnes, Mrs. Richard Pilcher, Wheatland, Wyo.; Miss Mildred who is in the Marines in North Carolina; Miss Marion, Chicago, and Miss Ruth, at home. All of the sisters were here for the funeral services.

Pallbearers were three Chicago friends, Red Collis, Richard Trimnes, and Tom Rigas, and three former schools mates, Arthur Nemitz, Carl Nemitz, and Herbert Kurth.
