Schmidt, Fred M. (26 Sep 1875 - 12 Jun 1945)

Fred M. Schmidt, 69, retired town of Worden (Clark Co., Wis.) farmer, who recently moved to this village, passed away at his home here of heart disease at 9:30 Tuesday evening, June 12, 1945.

Funeral services will be held at St. Bernard’s Church here at 9:30 o’clock Saturday morning, June 16th. An obituary will be published next week.

Fred M. Schmidt, a resident of this village, passed away on June 12, 1945 of a paralytic stroke at the age of 69 years and 9 months.

He was born at Brothertown, Wis., on Sept. 26, 1875. He came to Thorp while a young man and settled on a farm in the town of Worden, where he lived for 44 years.

Fred Schmidt was united in marriage to Frances Verkuilen on Oct. 28, 1902, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church by Rev. Father Dorrenbach.

Mr. Schmidt had been in ill health the past six months and retired from farming four months ago when he moved to the village of Thorp.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, five sons, Edwin, Melvin, Hermiss and Reuben, of Thorp, Arthur of Menahga, Minn., three daughters. St. Mary Hermes of St. Francis Convent, Milwaukee, Mrs. John Lesiecki (Rose) and Mrs. Geo. Schmidt (Eleanor), of Thorp, Two daughters died in infancy. He also leaves to mourn, two sisters, Miss Sophie Schmidt of Milwaukee, Mrs. Barbara Kleopple of Hilbert, Wis.; three brothers, Joseph of Kaukauna, William of Sherwood, and George J. of thorp, and sixteen grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. Bernard’s Church at 9:30, Saturday morning, June 16, with a solemn requiem mass celebrated by rev. Chester Dionne of Denmark, as celebrant, Rev. Schwieterman of Rib Lake as deacon and Rev. Muckerheide as sub-deacon. Interment was made in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were: George Haas, Robert Haas, George Maier, Peter Henke, Louis Henke, Anton Baldeschwiler.
