Franz, Loretta R. #2 (15 NOV 1926 - 31 MAR 2008)

Loretta R. Franz, 81, Greenwood, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center, Neillsville, where she had resided the past three months.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the home of Charles and Phyllis Meinhardt, 225 N. Hendren Ave., Greenwood. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Withee.

Loretta Rose Franz was born Nov. 15, 1926, in Owen, to Emil and Katherine (nee Samson) Wachsmuth. The family moved to Gilman where she attended Hannibal and Donald schools. After school she worked in Waukegan at the Great Lakes Naval Base. On October 12, 1946, she married Leondo Franz at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood. Leondo died on March 1, 2003. She worked on family farms until 1954, and then for various families in the Greenwood area, Great Lakes Wollen Co., Loyal Canning Factory and Weyerhauser. After becoming a CNA she worked in Gilman, Vesper and Port Edwards nursing homes and did in-home care.

Survivors include her children, Patricia (William) Schubring, West Allis; Phyllis (Charles) Meinhardt, Greenwood; Jerome (Lisa) Franz, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; Jane Franz, Randy (Debra) Franz, Richard (Debbie) Franz, and Rhoda (Ken) Bush, all of Wisconsin Rapids; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, her brothers, Alfred (Betty) Wachsmuth, Sheldon; Arnold Wachsmuth, Schurz, Nev.; and Leo (Gladys) Wachsmuth, Sun City, Ariz.; her sister, Dorothy (Ray) Cornell, Gilman; sister-in-laws, Helen (James) Wachsmuth, Gilman; and Delores (Everet) Wachsmuth, Hinckley, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Alvira Stumpner, Elda Wald, Ella Mitchell and Marion Gwiazda; her brothers, Harold, Ralph, Earl, James, Everett; and infancy deaths of Ebner and Lee.
