Zuber, Stanley (31 JAN 1873 - 21 APR 1945)

Stanley Zuber, 62, was fatally injured about 9:30 Saturday morning, April 21st, 1945, when the Chevrolet pickup truck which he was driving was hit by a west bound lone railroad engine at the Washington St. crossing just west of the Soo Depot. His 17 year old son, Edward, was with him. The injured man was taken to the Stanley Hospital by ambulance and died several minutes after arrival there. He had suffered severe head bruises and his left side was crushed.

The man and his son were coming from the north from their farm home near Lublin and had nearly cleared the track when the engine struck the rear wheel of the truck, swinging it around against the cow-catcher and dropping it on the south side of the track just west of the crossing. Both were thrown out through the left front door which had been crushed in and landed several feet from the truck. The boy was treated for minor bruises and a cut on his cheek.

Although this crossing is equipped with a warning signal bell and wig-wag it is considered very dangerous. Thos. VanderWegen was killed by a long engine here in Feb. 1944 and several months ago Wm. E. Barrett narrowly escaped when the engine caught his milk trailer. Other earlier accidents have been experienced.

Stanley Zuber was born in Poland on Jan. 31, 1873 and had reached the age of 62 years, 2 months and 20 days.

Funeral services were held at the National Catholic Church at Lublin on Wednesday morning, April 25th, the Rev. Palaszewski officiating, and interment following in the parish cemetery.
