(Eau Claire Leader)

The marriage of Miss Gertrude L. Stephenson, daughter of Mrs. Martha Stephenson of Blair, to S/Sgt. Vernal J. Engebretson of Taylor, took place at Our Savior’s Church at Eau Claire at three o’clock Saturday afternoon, March 3, the Rev. M.T. Jenson performing the ceremony. Mrs. Jenson played organ music during the service. Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Stephenson, 504 Sixth Ave., Eau Claire, brother and sister-in-law of the bride.

Following the ceremony, a wedding dinner was served at the Stephenson home. Sgt. And Mrs. Engebretson left on the "400" that evening for a short trip.

Sgt. Engebretson has recently returned to the United States after serving in the European theater of war for nearly two years. He was with an armored division and took part in the campaigns in Africa, Sicily and Belgium. He has been awarded the silver star. At the end of his furlough, he will report to Fort Sheridan for reassignment. His bride will resume her position as a teacher at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.).
