Local News (April 15, 1885)

The Phonograph is informed that there is, in this town, a farmer who is so mean and stingy that he has starved several head of his stock to death, trying to learn them to live without eating. Also, that when his wife was sick an someone proposed that she ought to have chicken broth, he went and got chickens that had starved to death and brought to the house to make broth of. If one half of the stories told about him are true, a mild application of tar and feathers and a jaunt on the sharp edge of a three cornered rail, would be about that fit for him. He is too mean to live and certainly not fit to die.
