Van Sleet, Mr./Mrs. Frank (50th Anniv. - 6 May 1958)

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Sleet celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, May 3rd. There was an 8:30 morning Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Colby, a dinner at St. Mary’s gym at noon and a supper for 75 at the gym in the evening. A large wedding cake trimmed in yellow roses centered the table.

The couple received many gifts besides many gifts of money. There was an open house from 2 to 4 P.M. at the gym.

Mrs. Van Sleet, formerly May Allain, was born in Fond du Lac, 73 years ago last September 1st. Mr. Van Sleet, who was 75 February 1, was born near Curtiss.

The couple were married at St. Mary’s Church in Colby by the Rev. J. M. Schramm, May 6, 1908, shortly after the present church was built.

They have ten children, all married and present with their husbands and wives at the anniversary, Mrs. George (Aurelia) Blanchard, Colby; Elmo Van Sleet, Wausau; and Charles, Arthur, Joseph, Russell, and Orville, all of Milwaukee; Mrs. Edward (Marie) Allman, Colby; and Mrs. Russell (Bernice) Meyer, Colby, Wis.

There are also 35 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Three of the attendants at their wedding were present, Mrs. Frank Hanna, Minneapolis; and Cora and Charles Allain of Fond du Lac. The fourth, Mr. Louis Van Sleet, is deceased.

Other guests from away besides the children and their families were Mr. and Mrs. Art Foltz and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Olson, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. George Schrier, Wausau; Mrs. Frank Hanna, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Nyler and June Hanna, Minneapolis.

Mr. and Mrs. Van Sleet lived in Milan the first 15 years of their married life, then moved to the village where they lived 27 years and after that moved to the present home about two miles north of the village.
