Mayville, George (6 Sept. 1888 - 26 Apr. 1955)

The body of George Mayville, 67, resident of this community most of his lifetime, was found at about 7:45 o’clock Tuesday morning in the shallow backwater of the Little Eau Pleine Creek in the Town of Brighton, 2 miles southeast of here by Lowell Colby, a nephew, and Stewart Salter.

Marathon County authorities attributed the death as suicide by drowning. Mayville had been a former patient at a Winnebago mental hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Lulloff Funeral Home at Colby at 2 P.M. Saturday. The Rev. Harvey Schall, pastor of the Methodist church will officiate and burial will be made in the Unity cemetery.

Mayville was born here September 6, 1888, and lived here except during the period 1909 to 1928, which he spent in Canada. He was variously employed as a railroad section worker and at the local fish pole factory and feed store. He was unmarried.

He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Colby, Unity; Mrs. Fred Krum and Mrs. Wm. Ihan, Stockton, Calif.; and a brother, Dewey Mayville, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Funeral services for George Mayville, 67, were held Saturday at 2 P.M. at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Harvey Schall officiating. Burial was made in the Unity cemetery.

Pallbearers were Stuart Salter, Lester Ewert, Ray Binning, B. W. Mabbott, Fred Loughead and Alfred Johnson.

Mrs. Rudy Lynn, Mrs. Stuart Salter, Mrs. Lester Ewert and Mrs. M. E. Evenson were in charge of the flowers.

Mrs. Ted Domer and Mrs. Rodney Fuller sang "Heartaches" and "Does Jesus Care" accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Tom Loughead.
